Bristol Sport Foundation & Feeding Bristol partner to tackle inactivity and food insecurity

Astonishingly, Bristol has over 14,000 children eligible for free school meals and many families are not able to guarantee healthy and tasty meals everyday which are issues that Feeding Bristol are trying to tackle. Founded in 2017, the aim of the charity is to see a zero hunger Bristol through various community initiatives and projects throughout the city.

The partnership will see Feeding Bristol’s Children’s Kitchen programme delivered alongside Bristol Sport Foundation’s active free play videos and will be hosted on the Bristol Sport Foundation app with the aim of encouraging the young people of greater Bristol to lead Active Healthy and Happy lives. The programme will consist of a series of weekly healthy, step by step recipe videos (launching on Thursday 8th October) with downloadable content in the form of recipe cards for recipes such as chickpea bites with flatbread, noodle stir fry and spiced roast lemon chicken for viewers to try at home.

Ped Asgarian, Director of Feeding Bristol shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, ‘This is an exciting opportunity for Bristol Sport Foundation and Feeding Bristol to collaborate on tackling food inequality and physical inactivity. Through sport, nutrition, and access to good, healthy food we can begin to educate a generation on living healthier. Together we can increase the positive impact we are having on the lives of many children and families in the Bristol area.’

Ben Breeze, Bristol Sport Foundation’s Chief Community Officer adds “Bristol Sport Foundation is delighted to continue working in partnership with Feeding Bristol. COVID-19 and lockdown has further highlighted the need for like-minded charities to co-ordinate their work in order to support the most disadvantaged communities. Feeding Bristol’s desire to tackle food insecurity fits naturally with Bristol Sport Foundation’s aim to reduce health inequalities across the City of Bristol and we look forward to working together to help families lead active, healthy and happy lives”
