Bristol Sport Foundation partners with City of Bristol College to provide running training

With the Covid-19 pandemic putting the brakes on studies for many students, Bristol Sport Foundation (BSF) and City of Bristol College teamed up to launch a new running initiative to help students stay active and have goals to work towards.

The initiative is a BSF programme designed to prepare Health and Fitness students at the College for a 10km run and also saw students cover various distances along with other exercises which could be completed at home and in open spaces. The programme was delivered as weekly training sessions designed by ex-Great British international athlete, marathon runner and Level 2 Endurance Athletics Coach, Wayne Buxton.

The final 10k run took place on Wednesday 12th May with students and staff taking to the running track and complete their 10k, with some impressive times recorded!

College student, Isabella Davies, said: The 10km project has definitely helped me to get out and go for runs/walks during lockdown when there is not much to do so having this project to concentrate on has been great.”

Sports lecturer, Julian Wilcox, said: “The students were delighted with the new partnership with Bristol Sport Foundation. It is hoped the successful collaboration will continue in the future and the pair thanked BSF’s Corporate Partnerships Manager, Paul Glanville, and his team for the opportunity.”

Paul Glanville, Corporate Partnerships Manager at BSF, said: Despite the numerous challenges presented over recent months, we have a found a number of meaningful ways to engage with students and staff at City of Bristol College. It feels like we are a very good fit together and we look forward to our relationship going from strength-to-strength as we navigate our way towards calmer waters.”

College student Lee Baber said: Running has helped me to have some routine during a time that has not been the easiest to stick to a routine, and it has helped me a lot. The online talks have also helped me realise what I need to do to achieve my goals in the near future.”
