Hargreaves Lansdown defend Basketball Tournament title

Bristol Sport Foundation’s annual Corporate Basketball Tournament saw six teams battle it out for glory at the home of the Bristol Flyers on Thursday, March 23rd.

Staff from Hargreaves Lansdown, Hydrock, Xledger, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ashton Gate and the Foundation contested the popular event at SGS College WISE Campus.

Each team was coached by one of the Bristol Flyers first team players, with Malcom Delpeche, VJ King, Leslee Smith, Mike Miller, Jelani Watson-Gayle, Corey Samuels, Brandon Mahan, and Thomas Bell all in attendance along with coach Andreas Kapoulas.

The round-robin format produced high-octane entertainment before defending champions Hargreaves Lansdown triumphed in the final against Ashton Gate to retain their title.

Following the conclusion of the action on the court, the teams enjoyed a curry and drinks together along with the Bristol Flyers stars to round off a fantastic evening.

All proceeds from the event will provide much needed funds to help disadvantaged young people in Greater Bristol access and enjoy our community basketball activities.

Ben Breeze, Bristol Sport Foundation Chief Community Officer, said: “I want to thank everyone for coming to our annual basketball tournament and making it such a brilliant night. This event makes such a huge different to our basketball delivery, with the money raised going to Project Take Off to help disadvantaged young people in Greater Bristol access and enjoy our community basketball activities.

“Congratulations to all the teams who took part and well done to Hargreaves Lansdown for coming out on top in a very close final. A special mention to the Bristol Flyers players and coach Kapoulas for your giving us your time to support the event, providing coaching, commentary and so much more, we really appreciate your work.”

BSF Basketball Community Coach Rodney Gear said: “Our basketball programmes have such a massive impact in the communities where we deliver them, often providing opportunities to the most disadvantaged youngsters, and I know how much difference this money will make to them. Thank you so much to everyone who took part in this year’s tournament and for making it such a success.”
