We are delighted to announce the partners supporting this year’s Break The Cycle event. Lloyds Development Capital, Hargreaves Lansdown, Santander, Molson, Plantforce, Aspire, Sprague Gibbons, Heat, MHR Manager, Knee Specialist, Indigo Food Group, Nandos, BW Cycles, Ernst & Young, Whiteladies Buisness Centre and Everyone Active are all proudly supporting the biggest annual fundraiser in the group’s calendar that will take place on Sunday 17th July 2022.
The annual event, now in its 12th year, raises vital funds to support the delivery of the charitable foundations that make up the Bristol Sport family, namely Bristol Bears Community Foundation, Bristol City Robins Foundation, Bristol Flyers Community and Bristol Sport Foundation.
The donations made by our partners, who will feature on this year’s Break The Cycle Jersey, along with individual entry fees, are donated to Bristol Bears Community Foundation to help fund their award winning interventions.
Ben Breeze, Bristol Sport Foundation’s Chief Community Officer and founding member of Break The Cycle says; “The fundamental success of Break The Cycle would not be possible without the support of our partners. We are incredibly grateful to each event partner, it has been fantastic to see our partnerships grow and develop every year as more local businesses get behind the event.
“Many of our partners have supported the event since the very beginning and have networked with other like-minded organisations to get on board. We are delighted they see the value in the life-changing work the charities are delivering in disadvantaged wards in Bristol, using sport and physical activity as tool for positive change.”
Pete Gibbons, Managing Director of long-time partner Sprague Gibbons, was part of the team behind the inception of Break The Cycle alongside Ben. Pete says,
“I met Ben in 2009 and was brought along to the initial conversations as I had arranged a few charity cycle rides in the past, including one that raised nearly £50,000. At the time, Lawrence Dallaglio (former England Rugby Captain) was planning his Six Nations Venues ride that raised £1M. Cycling was just starting to become trendy with all the new tech and equipment and I thought a cycling event could be the perfect fundraiser, and so Break The Cycle was born.
“Advertising and marketing is my background and although getting participants to fundraise individually is important, I knew inviting a handful of local businesses to back the event makes a huge difference.”
Over the years other businesses from around Bristol have become loyal partners of the event. Pete continued,
“I am part of a big cycling community in Bristol and in the early days I’d got some of my friends involved to participate in Break the Cycle. The majority of those are now partners who feature on the event’s jersey, so it’s great to see how it’s grown over the years.”
On how Break The Cycle has evolved over time, Pete says; “I think it’s got slicker and slicker. The very early ones were fun, but the route wasn’t ideal from a cycling point of view and the distance was an issue for less experienced cyclists. The routes are now far more cycle friendly and the option of three different distances is much better and more inclusive. The route through the Wye is simply stunning and I’m really looking forward to this summer’s event.
“I would really encourage anyone wanting to get involved to do so. A local business that might want to become a partner, families and groups of friends, or even just an individual – whoever you are, get involved. Break The Cycle is immensely good fun, uplifting, inspiring and fantastically organised, and if you could see the good that comes from the money raised it would make you realise the amazing difference you’re making!”
